Then, after we'd had a meeting to plan which excursions we might do, it was on to the evening entertainment.
First up was the nightly quiz in the large outdoor seating area. That was a 'alphabetical' musical quiz - 24 songs, with titles in alphabetical order, and 24 performers, so 48 answers in all. The very bubbly Thomson host, Anna, did intend to ask us which two letters were missing from her alphabet to make the marks up to 50, but she forgot - although we might well have guessed from the start that the two missing letters would be Q and X! The really strange thing was that she insisted that each answer was worth 10 points, so instead of the quiz being out of 48 (or 50!), it was actually out of 480 (or 500!).
Elizabeth was in her element. She started writing and never stopped, only asking me along the way who had performed the H answer, Hippy, Hippy Shake. I did say 'The Swinging Blue Jeans'. At first Elizabeth thought she hadn't actually written that down but she had! Why does this all seem odd? Well, she was sitting a good table away struggling to use the tiny amount of light available from the stage! Next time we'll take a phone with a torch (flashlight?) on it!
Just like on the cruise ships, papers were held up high until the score went beyond yours and suddenly Elizabeth was one of very few still holding up their answer sheets. Yes, you guessed it, she won and the prizes here are typically a bottle of bubbly, so we now have two in our fridge as we haven't yet drunk our welcome bottle.
One of our best quiz prizes yet! |
They were excellent and performed some Four Seasons hits and other songs from the heyday of 50s and 60s Rock and Roll.

And here are a couple of clips from their performance -
